Priorities For Portlethen
Monday, 10 December 2007
PORTLETHEN and District Community Council will head into the new year with a clear indication of the issues they wish to tackle.
At its meeting on 19th November in Portlethen Academy, those in attendance embarked on a planning exercise designed to review and prioritise the needs of the community.

At the meeting, John Tether and Derek Johnson were both co-opted to serve the sub-division of Portlethen Village, which previously had no representation.
Alex McKay took up the last available position within the Portlethen Station area, after former Portlethen North councillor Sheila Thomson – who was also interested in that role – decided to withdraw her name from consideration in the anticipation that one of the bodies whom she currently works with will put her forward in a non-voting capacity.

In other business, Gordon Munn was elected as vice chairman, with June Wood installed as planning officer.

The main portion of the evening saw community councillors, councillors and members of the public all have their say on the matters they thought it important for PDCC to take an interest in.

The task, led by chairman John Davidson, saw everyone post issues on a set of boards, before the pieces of paper were subsequently re-organised and prioritised.
The four North Kincardine councillors – Alastair Bews, Paul Melling, Ian Mollison and Carl Nelson – were then all given a list of concerns which they can begin trying to resolve.

The community council identified a range of topics that they can immediately start working on, with transport, in particular commuting difficulties, identified as the most pressing issue.

Members are also hoping to use their next meeting as a chance to speak with the local parents forums in order to assess the schooling situation within Portlethen.
That meeting will take place on January 22 in the support centre at Portlethen Academy, with the group convening on the fourth Tuesday of every month thereafter. (Extracted from Mearns Leader 22 November 2007)
